The Culturally Compatible Education Workshop Series
Nationally, students of color score lower on standardized tests, are more likely to receive special education services, and have lower graduation rates. These disparities are a cause of concern for many school districts.

Our Culturally Compatible Education workshop series provides educators the support, information, and strategies they need to connect with and support students of color whose culture and communication styles may be different from that of mainstream education.

Culturally compatible education equips educators with tools to provide instruction that is compatible with the culture that students bring with them to school.

In "The Container," we explore how to increase students’ sense of belonging and offer strategies for creating caring cross-cultural relationships. This workshop also explores the origins of low expectations for students of color and emphasizes the importance of high expectations.

Our "Bridging Culture" workshop provides a deeper understanding of culture, and offers strategies for utilizing students’ cultural assets as bridges to learning.

In a survey of participants attending the workshop, 100% said
  • the workshop helped them identify the need for and benefits of keeping students in general education,
  • the workshop increased their understanding of the connection between learning and belonging,
  • the workshop helped them identify strategies that utilize cultural assets as learning bridges, and
  • they would recommend the workshop to others.
